The short version
Cold process soap is made by combining oils with lye at room temperature, allowing them to react over hours, then curing the resulting bars for four to six weeks before use.
That curing time is the difference. Most commercial bar soap is pushed through a heated process in hours. Ours takes longer because the slow reaction creates a bar that lasts longer and treats the skin differently.

Why it matters for the bar in your hand
The Basalt Bar you might be holding was made eight weeks before you opened it. Four of those weeks were just waiting.
That patience shows up as a harder bar, a denser lather, and a slower wear.
